Samsung — Configuring Time on TIZEN Displays

How to configure the date, time, and NTP settings on Samsung TIZEN commercial displays

Configuring Time on Samsung TIZEN Displays

Samsung TIZEN units have two internal clocks that work independently:

  • System Time — stored on the hardware. Set manually with the remote. Used for timers. Has no time zone — stores only date and time.

  • Tizen OS Time — set automatically based on IP location, or configured to use an NTP server. Used for application dates and scheduled presentations.

Keeping both clocks accurate is important for day parting and scheduled presentations to display correctly.

Setting the Date & Time Manually

Use this when you need to set or correct the System Time directly from the remote.

  1. Press the Menu button on the Samsung remote.

  2. Select System.

  3. Select Time.

  4. Select Clock Set and enter the current date.

  5. Select Time and enter the current time.

  6. Press Home, then select Menuboard Manager to return to the digital menu.

Configuring NTP (Automatic Time Sync)

NTP keeps the Tizen OS Time accurate automatically, which is especially important for units where the system time tends to drift. Recommended for any display using scheduled or day-parted presentations.

  1. Using the remote, go to Menu > System > Time > NTP Settings.

  2. Set Network Time Protocol to Use.

  3. Set the server URL to pool.ntp.org.

  4. Select your time zone (e.g., Central Time US & Canada).

  5. Save — the unit will restart and the new settings will take effect.

How Time Affects Scheduled Presentations

The time source the unit uses depends on its network and NTP status:

Unit is offline
The unit falls back to the Monitor's Internal Time. If the internal time is wrong, scheduled presentations (such as day parts) will display at the wrong time. To fix: connect the unit to the network and reboot — a simple reload will not work.

Unit is online, NTP off
Time and time zone are estimated from the IP address location. If the IP resolves to a different time zone than your physical location, presentations will be offset. To fix: enable NTP with the correct time zone, or switch the time reference to the Monitor's Internal Time and verify it is set correctly.

Unit is online, NTP on
Time and time zone are controlled by the NTP server. If your time zone is configured correctly, presentations will display on schedule. To fix any discrepancies, verify the NTP time zone setting.

You can also change the time reference (between Tizen Time, ISP/Network Time, and Monitor's Internal Time) through the Menuboard Manager Unit Console.
