Tizen Time

Tizen units have two internal clocks:

  • System Time on the Hardware

  • Tizen OS Time on the Application

System Time

  • Can be set with the remote control Menu/System/Time

  • Used for timers

  • It should be set when the unit is first installed

  • It doesn't have a time zone, it is just date and time

Tizen time

  • It is set automatically based on the IP location

  • Can also be set to reference an NTP server and timezone

  • This time is used for any application dates

Note: It is possible to change the time reference from Tizen time or ISP/Network Time to the System Time or Monintor's Internal Time through the Menuboard Manager Unit Console.

How do I set the NTP server in my Samsung Tizen unit?

  • With the remote control go to Menu/System/Time/NTP Settings

  • Change Network Time Protocol to Use

  • Update Server URL to pool.ntp.org

  • Select Time Zone, like Central Time (US & Canada)

  • Save
The unit will restart and the new settings will take effect

Scheduled Presentation Scenarios

What time will the unit get?

  • Unit is offline
If the unit is offline when it powers on, the time reference will be the system's internal time (Monitor's internal time). So if you have a lunch day part starting at 12PM and the system's time is 12:01 PM, the lunch presentation is going to show, instead of the breakfast presentation even if the "Real" time at the location is 8AM.
To fix connect the unit to the network and reboot (a simple reload will not work)

  • Unit is online with NTP server off
If the unit is online and the NTP server is off, the time reference and the time zone will be estimated from the IP location. So if the IP is located in the Pacific and your unit is in Central and Central time is 12PM, your breakfast presentation is going to show instead of the lunch presentation, since PST is two hours behind CST.
To fix, adjust the schedule or change the time reference to the system's internal time (make sure the system's time is correct)

  • Unit is online with NTP server on
If the unit is online and the NTP server is on, the time reference and time zone are going to be the estimated from the NTP server. So if your time zone is correct, your presentation should show on time.
To fix any discrepancies, verify your NTP server time zone
